Chiang Mai—
On April 23rd, 2024, Mueang Chiang Mai police and relevant agencies launched an inspection at a massage shop in Mueang Chiang Mai after finding out that the shop allegedly had minors under the age of 18 providing sexual services to customers.
According to the police report, the massage shop owner, publicly identified as Ms. Natthanaree Puangmala, 21, secretly provided sexual services to customers who used massage services at a total cost of 3,000 baht. However, the shop had many minors who were reportedly under the age of 18.
Upon further police investigation, it was found out that the shop had a financial list that reportedly paid bribes to many government officials with a total of 20,000 baht monthly.
The police rescued six underaged victims before escorting them for interrogation under the supervision of Thai multidisciplinary agencies and would provide further aid to them accordingly.
Initially, the police took hold of the massage shop owner at Mueang Chiang Mai police station for further interrogation and confiscated computer devices and CCTV as evidence. The shop owner was facing legal action for the accusations of illegal prostitution and operating a healthcare facility without a valid license.
The police officers publicly revealed that the investigative team had monitored this massage shop for a while as it relocated frequently to avoid police arrest. Until then, the police officers investigated the case and found clues that led to this successful operation and rescued the underaged victims.
Further investigation is also expected on the alleged government officials who had taken bribes.
