On April 24th, 2024, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, the Thai Minister of Transport, publicly revealed his official visit itinerary to China from May 6th to 15th for the 31st Thailand-China Railway Cooperation Meeting.
The meeting will be held to discuss transportation matters between the Thai and Chinese governments, especially, the development of a high-speed rail system linking the region.
Furthermore, the Thai government sought to expedite the first phase Bangkok–Nong Khai and the second phase Nakhon Ratchasima–Nong Khai high-speed train project with a total distance of 609 kilometers.
The 31st Cooperation Meeting would present a report on project progress and guidelines to expedite the project to strengthen the potential of the railway system as a transportation hub for the economy and convergence of public transportation at the regional level that connects various provinces in Thailand.
Suriya further added the itinerary to present Thailand’s mega project “Land Bridge”, an economic bridge connecting the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea project, to Chinese investors. The mega project aimed to build a new trading route at the regional level and would open a new opportunity at the Asian regional level.
