On April 26th, 2024, Thai immigration officers publicly revealed an operation to eradicate immigrant workers who allegedly competed for Thai locals’ professions without permission in Ratchathewi, Bangkok.
According to the immigration officers, immigration police, Phaya Thai police, and relevant officers of more than 20 individuals who reportedly inspected markets in the Pratunam area, Ratchathewi, Bangkok.
The locals in the Pratunam area had previously filed a complaint report to immigration officers to inspect the markets as many immigrant workers including Cambodian, Burmese, Laos, and Vietnamese, allegedly illegally set up stalls selling products. However, there were no Thai employers who supervised them.
In response to the complaints, the immigration officers performed a field inspection of the markets. They found 13 individuals divided into two groups including a group of illegal workers without work permits and a group of workers with work permits who violated the working conditions, especially illegally setting up goods stalls.
According to the immigration officers, 12 Burmese workers and one Lao worker were escorted to the Phaya Thai police station for further legal processing and deportation.
The Thai immigration officers publicized the importance of working in Thailand under legal terms and conditions with valid documentation. If any illegal activities were suspected regarding immigrant workers, please report directly to the Thai immigration officers: 1178.
