Thailand Anticipates Surge in Tourists During Golden Week: Nearly 1 Million Visitors Expected to Boost Tourism Revenue

On April 25th, 2024, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) reported a massive number of incoming foreign tourists expected to be visiting Thailand during the Golden Weeks in certain countries and labor days from April 26th to May 5th. It was estimated that more than 996,000 individuals would travel to Thailand.

Mr. Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, the TAT Deputy Governor for Asia and South Pacific markets, publicly revealed an estimated number of incoming foreign tourists of 996,000 which was 29% higher compared to the same period last year and would generate more than 32.23 billion baht which was 35% higher compared to the previous year.

During the Golden Week and Labor Days, Japan would have holidays from April 29th to May 5th, and China would have holidays from May 1st to 5th, respectively. Chattan stated that more than 41,000 to 230,000 individuals would visit Thailand during this period.

Starting from April 26th, it was anticipated that 41,000 Japanese tourists would gradually travel to Thailand which was 30% higher compared to the previous year, and would generate tourism revenue of 1.3 billion baht which was 76% higher compared to the previous year, according to Chattan.

According to Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports, from April 1st to 21st, the World Songkran Festival generated a total revenue of 140 billion baht. It was reported that more than 1.92 million foreign tourists visited Thailand during the festival which was 37.54% higher compared to the same period last year.

However, EXPEDIA, an online travel agency, stated that the top three travel destinations during the Golden Week include Seoul in Korea, Taipei in Taiwan, and Bangkok in Thailand, respectively.
