500 Pattani Muslims Gather in Outdoor Prayer, Plead for Rain Amid Drought Crisis

Pattani—

At 8:00 AM, on May 3rd, 2024, Pattani local media reported more than 500 Muslims participated in an outdoor prayer to ask God for rain in the Pattani area as the weather had seen a drought for months.

According to Pattani local media, the scorching weather in the area greatly affected agriculture and livestock as the locals had experienced a severe water shortage problem. Mr. Waedueramae Mamingji, the chairman of the Pattani provincial Islamic committee, led the prayers under the scorching sun.

Furthermore, the prayer was to ask for forgiveness from God for their misbehavior that they believed caused them to face hardships and the drought. It was reported by local Pattani press that some of them had never prayed for rain in their lives as it was a prayer considered to be conducted under special circumstances.

The latest drought situation in Pattani was inspected by relevant local agencies tasked to monitor the situation closely.

Water for personal usage and consumption was reportedly sufficient, however, the water shortage was mainly for agriculture and livestock as the water sources had decreased gradually over the past several months due to lack of rain.

Pattani officials were currently investigating and inspecting the affected areas thoroughly to tackle the drought situation accordingly.
