Bangkok—
On May 3rd, 2024, the Bureau of Public Works, Bangkok, issued a letter to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) regarding the suspension of construction of electrical conduits/wells in collaboration with the elevated electric Yellow Line train.
According to Thai national media, the Bureau of Public Works received a report of a citizen falling into the electrical conduit to his death on the day in question as the plywood cover was in a tattered condition and had no warning sign.
Furthermore, it was reported that the construction of electrical conduits in many places did not properly cover the wells following legal standards. Bangkok citizens reportedly filed complaint reports regarding the issues on the Tiffany Fondue, a platform to report issues to the Bangkok Government.
As a result, the MEA was ordered to suspend construction and inspect all the electrical conduits under the MEA’s supervision following the legal standards within three days.
The victim’s family would be contacted for compensation as the work was performed negligently and did not comply with the construction manual for public utilities and the conditions in the legal permit, according to Thai national media.
