Belgian Motorcyclist Killed in Traffic Accident in Roi Et

Roi Et —

A Belgian motorcyclist was tragically killed in a traffic accident on the Arun Prasert Road in Roi Et province, northeastern Thailand, on Saturday night, May 4th.

The incident occurred at 10:00 PM on the bridge near the entrance to the Khee Lek area in the Pathumrat district. Police from the Pathumrat Police Station were notified and responded to the scene along with rescue workers from the Asoke Kasetwisai Foundation and medical personnel from Pathumrat Hospital.

At the accident scene, authorities found a white Triumph motorcycle with a storage box mounted on the rear of the bike lying on the bridge. Nearby, they discovered the body of the deceased motorcyclist, identified by police as Mr. Jan Remi Van Welden, a 67-year-old Belgian national. Mr. Van Welden’s body had sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull. Police officers noted that the wounds suggested that the victim might have been run over by a vehicle.

However, Pathumrat police initially could not find signs of collision or debris from another vehicle at the scene. They secured the area and collected evidence for further investigation. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Mr. Van Welden’s body was taken to a local hospital. Police are contacting his family and embassy.
