On May 31st, 2024, Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin presided over the Bangkok Pride Festival 2024, organized by Bangkok Pride and the Bangkok Government.

The event saw participation from the LGBTQIAN+ community, both Thai and international, culminating in a grand parade on June 1st along Rama I Road in Pathumwan.

Bangkok Pride is a historic event showcasing the commitment and determination of various groups to elevate the festival to a global level, potentially attracting tourists worldwide. It also highlighted Thailand’s capability to host Bangkok WorldPride 2030.

The parade commenced from the Nimibutr Building at the National Stadium, proceeding along Rama I Road to the Ratchaprasong Intersection, covering a distance of 2.5 kilometers. The festival featured five main parades and 130 sub-parades, displaying the vibrant diversity of LGBTQIAN+ communities.

According to Thai national media, many prominent figures, including Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, Pheu Thai Party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat, and other notable individuals, participated in the parade.

Paetongtarn announced that the Marriage Equality Bill will soon be enacted under Srettha’s government, with broad support from various political parties and the public. She emphasized that love should be recognized and legally supported.

Additionally, the Pheu Thai Party is discussing sex workers’ rights, and advocating for basic rights, including healthcare and welfare, for all professions.

Pita echoed similar sentiments regarding the Marriage Equality Bill, which is set for council consideration in July. He confidently stated that with bipartisan support, the bill would pass without issue.
