Thailand Sees 38% Surge in Tourism with Over 14 Million Visitors in First Half of 2024

On June 6th, 2024, Thai Government spokesperson Chai Watcharong announced the government’s commitment to enhancing the tourism industry, aligning with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s vision of IGNITE Thailand.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports and relevant agencies will host the “IGNITE TOURISM THAILAND: TAT Skill Factory” workshop from June 15th-16th. This event aims to enhance the skills of tourism industry personnel, focusing on providing excellent service and ensuring tourist safety.
The Government spokesperson publicly revealed that between January 1st and May 31st, 2024, Thailand welcomed 14,760,911 foreign tourists, generating over 701,429 million baht in revenue, marking a 38% increase from the previous year.
The top five nationalities were Chinese (2,911,370), Malaysian (2,012,406), Russian (848,473), Indian (842,580), and South Korean (803,574). The total number of tourists in 2024 is expected to exceed 35 million, according to the Government spokesperson.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin expressed pride in Thailand’s potential as a premier tourism hub and global destination. He emphasized the government’s ongoing support to promote year-round tourism and enhance the country’s tourism value through collaboration across all sectors, remarked the Government spokesperson.
