Covid-19 concerns, disinfection in Sattahip after illegal Burmese migrant found recently smuggled to Chonburi area

Sattahip, Chonburi-

Disinfection has been conducted after a Burmese national was caught being recently illegally smuggled to Sattahip.

Mrs. Soso Mea, 26, a Burmese national, had been smuggled into Thailand via a natural border recently. The exact timeline and dates were not announced by Sattahip authorities. She travelled to Sattahip by a van to her husband’s accommodation in Soi Chay Sod. Myanmar is currently having a significant outbreak of the Covid-19 Coronavirus and recent cases in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai from people who crossed the border illegally have alarmed the public, according to Chiang Rai officials.

Officers from the Sattahip District Office caught her after a tip from a concerned citizen before taking her to a hospital for COVID–19 testing. Her test result is to be announced tomorrow, noted officials.

She was taken to the Sattahip Police Station also and will face charges of illegally entering Thailand and will be deported. The legal status of her husband was not made immediately clear by authorities.

The Sattahip Mayor, Mr. Narong Boonbangerdsri ,has ordered staffers to disinfect areas where Mrs. Soso stayed for hygiene measures. He has also asked local residents not to panic and stated that the woman had limited public contact. Although her test results have not yet been announced, Mr. Narong wanted to be transparent with the public by announcing the situation was under investigation.
