Thailand discovered 39 domestic infections among 42 new Covid-19 Coronavirus daily cases with one additional death in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported this morning, March 2nd.
Thailand’s 84th death was a 92-year-old Thai man from Pathum Thani with underlying conditions of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. He was reportedly in contact with an infected market vendor on February 11th.
He started to have suspicious symptoms from the disease and sought a Covid-19 test on the 23rd. He was isolated at Pathum Thani hospital for treatment as his test proved positive. However, his condition became worse and he was pronounced dead on February 28th.
Regarding the domestic cases, the majority of 35 infections were walk-in/hospital cases, including contact tracing, that were reported in Samut Sakhon with 24, Pathum Thani with 5, Tak with 4, Nakhon Pathom with 1, and Nonthaburi with 1. Most of them are asymptomatic, according to the reports. All of the patients are now isolated at local and field hospitals for treatment.
The other four infections were found during proactive case finding in local communities, particularly in local markets, factories, and migrant workers dormitories, in Pathum Thani with 3, and Bangkok with 1.
As of today, 96 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 26,073 cases with 25,420 recoveries and a total of 84 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s FDA revealed today that two international vaccine companies, namely Barat Biotech from India and Moderna from the United States, are preparing to apply for Covid-19 vaccine registration in Thailand.
Johnson & Johnson company has recently completed submitting all documents for registering its vaccine in Thailand as well, according to deputy government spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek.
