National –
Thailand discovered a total of 9,489 daily Covid-19 infections with 129 additional deaths in the past 24 hours, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported today, September 28th. The number of daily infections becomes lower than 10,000 for the first time in the past three months.
TPN media notes, however, that some critics have called out the government on not potentially recording rapid antigen test results amongst positive tests. The government, however, stated that anyone who tests positive on a rapid test must get a second confirmed RT-PCR test and that therefore the results are accurate.
The fatalities were 65 men and 64 women with the most numbers recorded in Bangkok with 25. Of that, 122 were Thai nationals, three were Myanmar nationals, two were Cambodian nationals, and one of each was a Chinese and Iranian national. The age range was between 25 and 96 years old.
Most of them were reported with underlying health conditions, including hypertension (62), diabetes (35), hyperlipidemia (24), obesity (14), and kidney disease (13). Three of the fatalities were bedridden patients.
Of the new cases, 8,823 were found in hospitals and medical services (which includes contact tracing cases), 387 were from a proactive approach at previously reported clusters, 269 were from prisons, and the remaining 10 were imported cases.
A number of 116,711 patients are still under treatment/isolation/medical care. Of that, 3,283 patients are in critical condition including 738 on ventilators. This is roughly 2.81 percent of cases that are critical while 22.4 percent of that is critical enough for a ventilator.
Regarding the non-prison local infections, the highest numbers of patients were reported in Bangkok with 1,557, followed by Samut Prakan with 722, Chonburi with 712, Pattani with 413, Nakhon Sri Thammarat with 389, and Narathiwas with 346.
A total number of 734,597 people nationwide have received Covid-19 vaccines in the past 24 hours. Of that, 218,818 people had received their first shots, 484,278 people had received their second shots, 31,485 people had received their third shots, and 16 people had their fourth shots.
As of today, 12,805 people fully recovered in the past 24 hours and have been released from field hospitals and quarantine centers. Thailand has now reached a total of 1,581,415 cases with 1,448,206 recoveries and a total of 16,498 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
