The Mae Ramphueng Beach in Rayong is now temporarily closed from today (January 29th) while an oil spill on the beach is being cleaned.

The Royal Thai Navy conducted an aircraft survey at Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate on January 26th, 2022, following a crude oil spill from the Star Petroleum Refining Company (SPRC).

Now, the update:
The Rayong Governor Charnna Iamsaeng and the Director-General of Pollution Control Department Mr. Atthapol Charoenchansa today (January 29th) inspected Mae Ramphueng Beach where the oil spill has spread on the beach along 400 meters.
Two hundred officers from the Royal Thai Navy were also present and have tried to clean up the beach.
Governor Charnna told the media, “At noon, the temporary closure of Mae Ramphueng Beach has been announced until further notice. No one is allowed to enter the beach area except relevant officers. Locals shops on the beach are also being requested to temporarily close.”
The Rayong Provincial Public Health Chief Doctor Soonthorn Reanpoomkitjakarn warned, “Please stay away from the beach area to avoid the smell from the oil.”
