Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha ordered the relevant authorities and institutions personnel to closely monitor and take care of students after a Covid-19 cluster was found in some schools a week after onsite classes had started.
Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said today, May 26th, that the number of infections had slightly increased and small outbreaks were reported in some boarding schools. Initially, the infected were isolated and taken care of but the schools would not be ordered close.
The Prime Minister urged everyone to strictly follow disease prevention measures and ordered related departments to provide knowledge to students to have self-discipline and help prevent the spread of Covid-19 continuously in order to continue their studies in a safe manner and environment.
As of today, the number of Covid-19 infections today was 4,924 cases which were all domestic cases. 37 deaths were reported. About 5,560 cases were recovered while 46,595 patients were being treated. 995 of them were critical patients suffering from pneumonia, accountable for an average of 13 people/province. The bed occupancy rate was 13.8 percent.
