Thailand-
More than 5,000 Thai researchers have filed an official document to show full support of the draft cannabis bill to be used for medical purposes.
The President of the Association of Researchers of Thailand (ART) Mr. Pipat Nontanathorn has filed a document with more than 5,000 supporters signatures to the Thai Public Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Mr. Pipat said, “We are requesting for The Thai government to put aside their differences and pass the draft cannabis bill for supporting its use for medica reasons. If cannabis is reverted back into an illegal narcotic drug it will cause major negative effects and lose the chance to further progress and develop the country. The association has done a significant amount of research that prove the positive benefits of cannabis that is being used for medical purposes and as a traditional herb for local communities.”
Mr. Anutin said, “We are glad that the association has supported the cannabis bill. The Public Health Department has confirmed that cannabis has positive benefits if it is used in the right way especially for medical, health and the economy.”
“Cannabis plants are not listed as a narcotic. Only extracts from cannabis that has THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) substance more than 0.2 is considered as a narcotic. The last official step is to be announced in the Royal Gazette. Cannabis would not be reverted back into a illegal narcotic. Some tightening on rules around selling flowers will take place but we will not ban cannabis again.” Mr. Anutin explained.
