  1. Thousands of LGBTQ+ people, their allies, and political leaders marched through central Bangkok on Sunday to mark Pride Month and promote gender equality in the second official Pride parade to be held in the country.

Thailand’s PM-hopeful and leader of the Move Forward Party (MFP) Pita Limjaroenrat pledged at a Pride event in Bangkok that he would mandate a Parliament vote for the marriage equality bill for LGBTQ+ people within 100 days after he takes office.

Many more pride events will take place throughout June.

2. A group of cannabis supporters announced that they will celebrate the so-called Thai Cannabis Day in front of the Parliament on June 9th.

June 9th marked the one year anniversary since Thailand decriminalized cannabis.

3. Thai police are searching for a young missing Malaysian woman who has been out of contact with her mother for days during a visit to the border town of Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai province, northern Thailand.

The last pictures she sent indicated that she was in the the border town of Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai. The town was located on the opposite of Myanmar’s border town Tachilek. She is still missing.

4. The Thai Election Commission announced this evening, June 9th, 2023, that they have dismissed multiple complaints and petitions against Move Forward Party Leader and PM hopeful Pita Limjaroenrat around the holding of media shares, stating they were filed past the legal time limits for complaints.

Therefore, the issue is no longer the holding of the shares but rather if Pita knowingly ran for PM with them and knew they could disqualify him. If found guilty, Pita could face significant prison time and be disqualified.

5. The Thai Alcohol Business Association, or TABA, announced last Friday, June 9th, 2023, that it supports an amendment of the country’s current alcohol control regulations to benefit brewers, distillers, tourists, and, consumers.

The 2PM to 5PM alcohol sales ban has been in place for about fifty years and the exact reason for the ban is unclear in the current day with various reasons and myths given often by officials and residents of Thailand.
