Tremors Felt After Earthquake Reports in Phitsanulok

Phitsanulok, Central Thailand –

An earthquake was reported shortly after midnight today in Phitsanulok with multiple tremors felt by residents and those in the affected areas.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported after midnight (June 29th) of an earthquake that measured a 4.5 on the Richter Scale at about five kilometers deep in Pailom in the Bang Krathum district.

Tremors were felt in Phitsanulok and nearby provinces in Phichit, as well as Kamphaeng Phet. Some damage has been reported in Mueang Phichit such as house walls and a stupa in a temple suffering minor cracks. However, the damage has not affected the main structures.

The Thai Government PR Department, also known as NNT, had this to say about the morning quake:

In the early hours of June 29th, an earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Phitsanulok province, specifically in Bang Krathum district.

The earthquake, occurring at a depth of 5 kilometers, was first reported at 00:33 local time by the tremor monitoring department.

The quake’s epicenter was located in the Phai Lom sub-district. The coordinates of the earthquake were given as 16.558 degrees north latitude and 100.368 degrees east longitude.

Within minutes of the incident, the Meteorological Department issued an official announcement detailing the seismic activity. The tremors were noticeable not only in Phitsanulok but also extended to the provinces of Phichit and Kamphaeng Phet.

Reports from the Phichit city district revealed that multiple sub-districts had experienced the earthquake’s tremors, with Bang Krathum in Phitsanulok identified as the epicenter. The effects of the tremor were particularly felt in neighboring areas, including the city district of Phichit.

Currently, emergency teams from Phitsanulok are on the ground assessing the damage.

Recently, an earthquake was reported on Monday morning (June 19th) in Myanmar with tremors felt as far away as Bangkok and Nonthaburi.
